I agree that the build process of somewhat more advanced projects is
not easy to specify with Oasis.  But for simple projects (pure OCaml,
maybe just some C-files, no preprocessing) it is decent enough.
Though I have adopted Oasis for all my open source projects, I did
sometimes despair a little when things got complicated, e.g. version
discovery of 3rd party libraries, preprocessing, etc.

I'm not going that far yet, I'll just wait and see whether Oasis will
improve to the point where the hard stuff gets easy enough, or, who
knows, until something even better comes along.  But I really do like
the idea of having a standardized packaging file within the package.
Oasis may have started out in the right place with that, but seems to
have wandered into less promising territory.
