i am running SunOS 5.8 as my only system (at work).
i found that sun cc (Forte/6u2/SUNWspro/bin/cc) does not accept some 
plan9 cc contructs. ramfs.c has

char 	*(*fcalls[])(Fid*) = {
	[Tversion]	rversion,

where [Tversion] is not understood.

moreover, there are some files where plan9 cc allows a cast to a struct, 
which sun cc does not allow. one example, acme.c, has

	rs = cleanrname((Runestr){rb, nr});

using gcc it is possible to get this far. note that mc.c also is missing a
