Answered messages not market correctly

Hello to all:

Below the summary line I have in my ~/.gnus

gnus-summary-line-format "%U%R%z%I%[%d [%4L: %-25,25f%] %(%s%)\n"

Normally like this, answered articles should be marked with
"A"....

This is not happening....

Why ?

When you `G E' the group from *Group*, is there a `(reply ### ### ###)'
list present?  That's the source of `A' markings.

As you can see, I have no ### ### ### in reply. And the A marking
is still not working....

How to correct ?

By "###", I meant sets of article numbers, not literal "###".

You have such a list, but it's got just one article noted as having
been the object of a reply, article 13167.  If you've actually replied
to more than this, then something has induced the destruction of the
rest of the reply list.

I can't explain that; I've never seen it happen, in any version of Gnus.

You can edit the reply list under `G E' yourself, if you want to
re-add those article numbers to which you know you've replied.  But I
know this is neither an obvious list nor an easy one to generate.

Yes. I have definitely replied by far more than only this single
answer.

Karl, editing this list is not a workable way. I am subscribed to
approx. 30 NG.

With all these groups, gnus is behaving the same way ie. it does
not gererate replied messages. This is particularily anoying, as
my summary line entry in ~/.gnus is correct.

If somebody has an idea how to correct this, I would indeed appreciate
it.

This happens to me way too often (once a week at least; occasionally it
happens multiple times per day).  Sometimes the reply list is nuked,
sometimes it's the 'tick' list; the latter is especially painful because if
expiry kicks in then I can permanently lose mail.  What happens is that I
tick a message, leave the group and later come back to see that only that
most recently ticked message is still there.  I cannot correlate this with
any other activity or any specific configuration settings.

I have resorted to backing up .newsrc.eld a few times a day and manually
pasting the reply and tick lists back in when they disappear.

That's bizarre.  I've never seen this happen that regularly.  You're
not accidentally hitting M-c while point is on a group?  That's the
only way I've known to have it happen to me.

I really doubt it, but the next time it happens I'll check the keystroke
log to make doubly sure.

With regards to me. No I am not hitting accidently M-c when in the
group buffer...

A few days ago, I have sent a similar message to this group
exactly for the same subject. Now I start to understand, why
messages are just wanishing.

I thought gnus to be a reliable NR...but with such behaviors, 
it will become akward to be used.

Is this a bug ?

I had a similar experience.  It turned out that I had a
`gnus-summary-exit-hook' which left a different buffer selected;
wrapping it in `save-excursion' fixed it.

The only vaguely hookish things I have set up are

(add-hook 'news-inews-hook 'ispell-message)
(remove-hook 'gnus-summary-prepare-exit-hook 'gnus-summary-expire-articles)

Do you have any virtual groups?  I had similar problems when I had a
virtual group.  I reported in a message to this list problems with
expiry, but I think similar problems occurred with other message
attributes.

No; just nntp and nnml groups.  (The problem happens in both.)

And I've had another mail-losing issue.  I was about 1000 messages behind
in this list, reading a chunk at a time by answering with a smaller number
when prompted for the number of articles to read while entering the group.
Suddenly there were no unread messages even though there should have been
several hundred; Gnus just lost track of them.  I am certain that I did not
do a catchup.

Unfortunately since I cannot duplicate any of these problems at will I'm
resigned to deal with them.
